It is starting to seem just like the Scottish Premiership will end prematurely, and it’s likely to be better for some clubs than many others.
The Guardian reported that nightclubs are set to vote on a motion to cancel the rest of the season and the standings would be dependent on the normal number of points each game.
Celtic – Celtic will be crowned champions and rightfully so, they got a very clear lead at the top with not a lot of matches to go, so that they would have gone on to win it anyhow. The margin at the top is big enough that declaring that the season null and void are a disgrace, therefore this would the the right choice.
St Johnstone – This would be the sole position change under these plans, also it would see Tommy Wright’s men leapfrog Hibs into the top six. They’re a stage behind Hibs with a match in hand which was a trip to Ibrox, but the average points system means that they’d move the table up. Realistically it’s only a space in the table and increased prize money, but that may actually cover an extra player or two at Perth next season.
Rangers – Rangers started strongly, showing signs of challenging Celtics for the title and winning the cup but it all went haywire after a certain stage. The cup final loss was a sad end and people now question Gerrard’s mentality and calibre to manage a top club.
Hearts – It’s difficult to deny that they have had this coming, but this would see Hearts relegated back to the Championship. In a way, it would be deserved for the absolutely shambolic regime that gave Craig Levein complete control. Daniel Stendel’s regime did not just turn things around either, but it seems like we could be exposed to a long legal battle if this does occur.
Hibs – As noticed with St Johnstone carrying their space from the league, it would be a cruel end to their revival this season if they fell into the bottom six.
It’s likely the fall out may see some ugly scenes if particular clubs do not take it well, but the majority of the season was completed and this last table would still reflect what’s gone on this season.
